Treatment Frequency and Cost
We aim to carry out a minimum number of treatments. As a ‘rule of thumb’ if a horse is not significantly improved at the second treatment we would refer the horse back to the vet. This is in order to check there are no underlying problems causing the soft tissue symptoms, at this point it may be decided that a deeper treatment under sedation is required.
Generally a horse is reassessed 10 to 14 days after the 1st appointment with a final check up 14 to 21 days later, with 1 to 2 days rest required after a treatment.
After a treatment under sedation – due to the deep stretches and manipulation carried out during the treatment, the horse normally has 5 days rest and may be prescribed a course of anti-inflammatories by the vet to relieve any post treatment soreness. A second treatment, if required, would be carried out a minimum of two weeks later.
