This form of treatment is particularly effective for horses with chronic or multiple areas of dysfunction – often demonstrated by a horse’s lack of ability to ‘move up a level’ in its work, inability to take weight behind or maintain an even and consistent contact in the hand. We also treat many horses, using this technique, that have a primary problem of the poll or pelvis i.e. sacroiliac strain or pelvic asymmetry.
The horse is sedated intravenously by a veterinary surgeon, so it is sleepy but still standing. The whole of the spine and pelvis is then assessed using a series of stretches and rotations. Once areas of dysfunction are identified the soft tissue is released using a combination of deep stretches, mobilisations, trigger point release and electrotherapy. The joints can then be manipulated to restore full range of movement
