Self Help

There are various exercises, stretches and massage you can carry out yourself that will help you to monitor your horse’s degree of flexibility and hopefully pick up any areas of tension that may require treatment, before they become chronic injuries.

It would be advisable to check on the suitability of any exercises etc with a physiotherapist or vet prior to carrying them out. The stretches etc described in this section should all be carried out with caution and are not intended as treatment techniques. They may be used to supple a horse before and after exercise and to help monitor the horse’s body, as a routine part of your general horse care routine.
