Our therapist will arrive (hopefully on time), initially she will want to see your horse stand up on a dry level surface to assess general confirmation, condition and symmetry. She will take a comprehensive history then palpate the horse to detect any areas of muscle spasm, soreness and assess muscle tone. Range of movement will be assessed using stretches and rotations.
A gait analysis will be carried out viewing walk and trot on a hard level surface, to assess limb flight and soundness. The horse will be turned both ways on a small circle to assess the ability to cross the limbs and the flexibility of the back and pelvis. If possible the horse will be observed on the lunge to assess its posture, self-carriage and symmetry on both reins.
The therapist will discuss her findings with the owner and if required an appropriate treatment plan will be proposed. If approved, treatment will commence immediately. Once completed the therapist will advise with regard to an appropriate regime or work program until the next appointment (if a follow up is needed).
